I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around
St. Valentine’s Day is this Wednesday for the unaware. St. Valentine shows up on 14th February every year to remind us that love is all around.
“If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.” - Hugh Grant
Remember this song..
"I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes.. Love is all around me and so the feeling grows.. It's written on the wind, it's everywhere I go .So if you really love me, come on and let it show!!"
I know you were singing along to that song. You were either thinking of "Love Actually" with uncle Bill Nighy or Wet Wet Wet in "Four Weddings and a Funeral", Hugh Grant being the star of both movies. And how many times have you watched those movies?
Anyways, I know that V-Day always conjures up really strong emotions and opinions. I’ve heard it all. Some say is too commercialised and was invented by Hallmark to sell cards.
Some hate it because they feel pressured to buy things. But seriously nobody is forcing you to do that.
Some hate it because they think they need to say ‘I love you’ or propose or define a relationship. But honestly, you don't have to do that.
Some hate the fact that they are alone. I totally get it why single people hate it. There are displays of stuffed animals holding a “I love you” heart. I understand that this feels like a reminder of someone’s singleness.
Some hate it because the restaurants are crowded. But the truth is if you go to a mall on month end, you will find a heavy flow of people. So...
Some hate it because they are stingy and generally don't want to spend on their loved ones. Guys usually fall into this category.
Even though you might have "reasonable" complaints about V-Day, most people will assume you’re hating on it because you’re single or because you have a partner who doesn’t treat you right. Instead of posting statuses about how you hate the day, ignore the whole thing. Honestly, you don’t need to spread the hatred.
Personally, I don’t know how people can be so miserable when there is so much love and chocolate everywhere. 😊
So clearly this post is for all the lovers. Still, you can read on to learn something... for when the urge to spoil your loved ones comes on you.
Here are some affordable, last-minute V-Day ideas.
Host your own drive-in movie. Head out to the backyard with some blankets, pillows, movie snacks and your laptop to enjoy a movie night outside. If you find it’s too chilly, why night bring the fun inside for an indoor drive-in movie.
Have a picnic. Invest in some affordable bubbly, set aside some time to make some nice picnic food. Choose a venue. based on weather and scenery. Take a comfy rug, a basket of goodies and go somewhere picturesque. Simple.
Plan a romantic dinner in your house. Dine in & cook together. Open up a bottle of favourite drink, put on your favourite music, dance around and start cooking.
Trade massages. Gather some lotions and oils together, and spend the evening giving each other romantic massages.
If you have kids, try and include them in your different activities. There is something really beautiful about watching your parents love each other. It helps your kids to be wholesome.
Remember whatever you are doing for your loved ones, it doesn't have to have to cost an arm and a leg; but if you’re fortunate enough to have a couple of rand to spare, it’s no one else’s beeswax how much you choose to spend on your loved one.
How are you planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?
